Pehr Kalm: Born 1716 of finnish parents in Ångermanland, Sweden. Studied at Åbo (Turku) Academy 1735-39 and at the University of Uppsala 1740-42. Travelled in Sweden, Russia and Ukraine 1742-46. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science 1745. Appointed docent in natural history and economics at Åbo Academy 1746 and professor 1747. Travelled for Linnaeus and the swedish government to North America 1748-51. Died in Åbo, Finland, 1779.
