Current taxonomic status
Current name Lemniscomys striatus, family Muridae (Mammalia: Rodentia).

Specimen data
1 complete specimen in alcohol, 118.1 mm long (Carleton & Van der Straeten, 1997: 672).

Original description
Mus striatus Linnaeus, 1758: 62 (type locality: India).

Type status
Recognised as holotype of Mus striatus by Carleton & Van der Straeten (1997: 672), and is thereby lectotype of Mus striatus.

Remarks
Carleton & Van der Straeten (1997) revised Lemniscomys striatus and commented on the specimens currently catalogued as NRM 532048. Carletom & Van der Straeten (1997) did not observe Linnaeus's (1758) reference to 'Mus orientalis' in Seba (1734-1765) which would also represent a part of the type series.
